CACHE – The Altus High men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at Cache for their second meet of the year last Friday and came away with some great results. The boys team finished second behind Lawton High in the 10-team field while the women finished fourth in the standings behind Lawton Ike, Lawton High and Elgin in the 10-team field.

Highlighting the boys competition was Hassan Foye who won the Long Jump with a leap of 21’01” (fifth best in the state this year) while finishing second for the Bulldogs were the 400 Relay team (45.20).

Placing third were Shaquan French in the Long Jump (20’01”), Jake Vargas in the 300 Hurdles (44.02), Jovanni Rodriguez in the Discus (126’10”) and the 800 Relay team (1:36.48).

Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Bulldogs with sixth place finishes were Pickett in the 800 Run and the 1600 Relay team of Hernke, Hill, Pickett and Leyja.

“Overall we are pretty happy with the results today,” said Coach Robert Garrison. “Almost every event saw our athletes lower their times and that is really encouraging.”

Next action for the AHS track teams will be Friday when they travel to Elgin.

Altus Junior High

Anyone reading the Altus Times have no doubt come across more than a few times when I’ve referenced the up and coming athletes in the junior high ranks. Track season is always a good time to put that claim to the test.

Altus Junior High went to the Chisholm Trail Invitational on Friday in Yukon.

There were at least 21 teams there including Edmond, Mustang, Choctaw, John Marshall, Deer Creek, Westmoore and Piedmont to name a few.

The junior high Dawgs took runner-up in Yukon.

Dylan Mcgill took first in long jump (19’1”) and first in high jump with a personal best of 5’8”.

The 4 x 200 relay team of Quaylin Johnson, Mysean Wells, Hunter Webb, and Moses McCaskill took first with a time of 1:40. This same team also took third in the 4 x 100 relay.

Hunter Webb took first in shot put with a throw of 43’1”.

McCaskill took second in the 200.

The 4 x 400 relay team of Quaylin Johnson, Dylan McGill, Hunter Webb, and Moses McCaskill finished in third place.

“This is a very special group of athletes,” said coach Dabelstein. “They make me so proud to be their coach everyday.”

This same bunch also claimed the runner-up spot at the Chickasha Invitational two weeks ago.

Altus invitational is April 12 starting at 3:30 p.m.
