The Bulldogs took a step closer yesterday to defending their Cache Tournament title from a year ago.

Altus slipped passed Geronimo in the eighth inning on Thursday, 7-6. The Bulldogs scored twice in the extra frame to get the victory.

With one out, Marcus Molina reached on a base on balls and eventually came around to score before McCrae Stephens crossed the plate for the win.

“Our bats are still a little rusty as to be expected,” said coach Jon Lamb. “Pitchers did a great job throwing strikes and letting the defense work for them today. I’m proud of the way we battled for this win. We are leaving too many runners on base. We need to do a better job of coming through with some timely hits when we have those opportunities.”

Marcus Molina, Tyler Garcia and Adrian Rodriguez were the workers on the mound for the Bulldogs.

Altus is now 4-2 on this young season and have advanced to the second round in the Cache Tournament. They will face Del City today at 4 p.m. after Del City defeated Walters in yesterday’s first round.

If the Bulldogs win that game, they will play at 8 p.m., weather permitting. A loss today against Del City would have the Bulldogs turn around and play again immediately in the 6 p.m. slot.

GO BULLDOGS!!
