The Duke Lady Tigers defeated Chattanooga in the first round of the Area Tournament on Thursday 46-32. The boys were also first round winners against the Varnum Whippets 56-43. Both teams were in control of their games from the opening tip. Neither of Duke’s first round opponents mounted a credible threat.
Duke would have to turn around on Friday and head back to Anadarko for semi-final games. The girls faced a stout Leedey team and the boys were to face an Earlsboro team who already has a win against Duke this season.
The Lady Tigers fell to that Leedey team in heartbreaking style Friday in triple overtime 47-46.
The Duke boys managed to hang on and close out Earlsboro and avenge the early season loss 50-46. On Saturday, Duke was to face the loser of the Leedey/Gracemont game. If the Tigers emerge victorious from that game, they will have a reserved spot on the bracket at next week’s small school State Tournament.
