The Altus Bulldogs are wrestling in Regionals this weekend trying to ultimately qualify for a shot to put a championship stamp on this season’s work at state next weekend.
It’s a two-day event at Regionals. Fridays action concluded with eight Bulldog wrestlers qualifying for next weekend’s State Tournament to be held at the State Fair Arena.
The Bulldogs wrestled again on Saturday for a Regional Championship at 6 p.m.
Slated to wrestle for first place will be Gage Gomez at 113 lbs., Omar Pollard at 120 lbs., Montorie Bridges at 126 lbs., Mikey Abuan at 152 lbs., Shannon Ybarra at 170 lbs., Austin Baldwin at 195 lbs., Taven Birdow at 220 lbs., and Keegan Pride at 285 lbs.
Still competing on the back side needing to win one match to advance to State next weekend is Jamie Craig at 132 lbs. and Kamron Canchola at 182 lbs. The Bulldogs who are still needing two victories to advance to State are Kobi Gomez at 106 lbs. and Garrett Pride at 160 lbs.
At press time, the Bulldogs led the team competition. The Bulldogs have scored 207.5 points to Piedmont’s 157.5 points and Lawton Mac’s 150.5 points.

No sport’s athletes work harder than the wrestlers. Therefore, add to that the news of the Bulldogs reigning at the top of the 5A wrestling mountain. That means the Bulldog wrestlers work harder than any other wrestlers in 5A.
