Altus High School Powerlifters began their inaugural season on Saturday, Feb. 6 in Anadarko.
Nineteen Altus student athletes competed. Skylar Ledesma placed 4th overall in the 132 pound weight class.
“They were anxious and a little nervous but I was so proud of them,” said coach Todd Vargas. “They did amazingly well for their first competition. The kids were so excited after the meet. They all said they couldn’t wait to get back into the weight room and really focus on their lifts. It was a great day to start off the power lifting program at Altus High School.”
The Bulldogs adding a powerlifting team to the list of opportunities for the AHS students to compete in is a fantastic way for kids not interested in wrestling or basketball to continue to get stronger for Spring football, track and baseball.
