Navajo summer hoops girls place 3rd

Navajo Lady Indians 9th/10th grade division takes 3rd place in the MAYB tournament at Southwestern Ok State College.

There were twelve teams in their division and took third overall. The lady Indians had 5 wins and 2 losses in pool play and the tournament. The first day and a half consisted of pool play with the last being tournament play. After all the pool play games, the Lady Indians were seeded 2nd based off of win loss record and point spread.

The lady Indians entered the tournament a relative unknown but managed to turn some heads in respect. The lady Indians represented themselves and Navajo School very well and proved that they can play ball against some of the best around. The team is coached by Scott Snyder.

The teams that typically attend this style tournament are competitive teams that take the best of the best from the surrounding area by invite only or through tryouts.

Throughout two and half days of play the Lady Indians held their own. The Lady Indians began pool play against a very tough and competitive powerhouse Okarche team, one of the other few school teams that attended. The Lady Indians led most of the game however, Okarchee took the lead with about three minutes to go and took the game from the lady Indians winning by 7 with a final score 23-16. Okarchee went on to win the tournament. Emmy Cobb led the offense attack with 6, Grace Bates had 2, Tabitha Armstrong had 2, Lindey Lambert added 3 and Kaylee Cross added 3.

Their Second game was against the Purple Aces, a competitive team from the OKC metro area. The Lady Indians stepped up their game after the first loss. They won this game 38-22. Cobb led the way 19, Bates 6, Cross 9, Riley Avila 2 and Danica Hubert added 2.

Third game on the books was with 3T Black, a highly competitive team from the surrounding area of Weatherford. A very tough game which the lady Indians came away victorious 26-21. Cobb had 15, Bates 6, Cross had 2 and Armstrong added 2.

Game four and last game of pool play was against OK Clutch. A put together team from the Thomas area. Navajo won 32-21. Bates led with 10, Cobb 7, Cross 5, Armstrong 4, Avila 4 and Hubert adding 2.

1st round of the tournament was against High Plains Storm. A team of surrounding schools from the panhandle of the state. Navajo took game in a tough battle winning 42-36. Bates led with 16, Cobb 10, Avila 8, Cross 5 and Armstrong 3.

The second round playing again the tough 3T Black. This time around the opponent got the best of the Lady Indians by handing them a loss of 45-19. Cross led with 9, Cobb 3, Avila 5 and Armstrong 2.

The Third and final game of tourney play was against 3T White. The Lady Indians proved to be able to rebound from a tough loss winning the game handedly 59-27. Bates led with 22, Cobb 18, Cross 14 Armstrong 3 and Avila added 2.
