The Altus Junior High 7th and 8th grade girls basketball teams hosted Duncan on Tuesday night and split the contests.
The 7th grade girls ran away from the Lady Demons, 49-21, while the 8th grade girls dropped a 37-23 contest. The 7th grade game was put away early as the Lady Dawgs ran out to a 16-2 first quarter lead and never looked back.
Altus outscored the Lady Demons 14-4 in the second frame to take a 30-6 halftime lead. The Lady Dawgs continued to pull away in the third frame outscoring Duncan 11-6 to take a 41-12 lead into the final quarter. Duncan outscored Altus in the final frame 9-7, but Altus took the easy 49-21 victory.
Lakysia Johnson led Altus with 26 points, while Sarah Scott added nine points.
Duncan left little doubt of the outcome in the 8th grade game.
Last Thursday, the two teams battled to the finish with Duncan winning 25-21, but this time the Lady Demons broke out to a 14-2 first quarter lead and put the game away early. Duncan outscored Altus 10-7 in the second frame and the Lady Dawgs went into the half trailing 24-9. The Lady Dawgs came out in the third quarter looking for a spark and cut the Lady Demons lead to seven. Duncan scored the last seven points of the quarter to take a 31-17 lead into the final frame. Both teams scored 6 points in the final frame and Altus fell to Duncan 37-23.
ShaRiya Davis and Annie Petzold led Altus with 8 points each. Both teams will travel to Lawton to take on the Lawton Tomlinson Lady Wolves.
