The Bulldog wrestlers have been in Baton Rouge, La. competing in the Deep South Bayou Duals over the past two days.
There are 40 teams total participating.
On Monday, competition started with eight pools of five teams. The top two teams in each pool advance to the championship bracket.
In the first dual, the Bulldogs worked over Archbishop Shaw, La. 66-3. The Bulldogs only lost one match.
The Bulldogs would face Lakewood, Fla. in the second dual. Altus hammered Florida in another lopsided win, 69-5. Again, the Bulldogs lost only one match.
The Bulldogs lit the scoreboard up in the third match as they shutout Acadiana, La. 82-0.
It wasn’t until the fourth match of the tournament that the Bulldogs would be tested. The Bulldogs still managed a convincing win as they beat Christian Catholic, 38-18.
The fifth match started the championship bracket and it pitted the top two from each pool.
The Bulldogs again were too much for their opponent as they dominated Arlington, Tenn. 71-3.
Today, the Bulldogs would face Brother Martin, La. in the semi-finals. Results were unknown at press time. This is a huge match for the Bulldogs as Brother Martin is the three time defending champion of this tournament.
There is also a Bulldog B-team that is gaining valuable mat time and competition experience. The B-team is competing shorthanded. They are forfeiting four weights against each opponent, so their 1-4 record in the tournament is misleading.
