AJH 7th LADY DAWGS DEFEAT ELGIN 36-14
ELGIN – After a very slow first half, the Altus Junior High 7th grade Lady Dawgs got on track in the third quarter and pulled away from the Elgin Lady Owls 36-14.
Altus took the early lead in the first quarter 10-8 but both teams struggled in the second frame with both teams only getting two points each as Altus went into half up 12-10. Altus used a big third quarter to begin to pull away from the Lady Owls by outscoring Elgin 9-4 to take a 21-14 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Altus defense shut out Elgin in the last quarter while the Lady Dawg offense rolled to 15 points to make the final score 36-14. Lakisha Johnson was the big difference for the Lady Dawgs as she scored 20 points.
Altus (5-2) will not play again until Jan. 4 when they travel to Anadarko.

LADY OWLS DEFEAT ALTUS 8TH GRADE 25-13
ELGIN – The Altus Junior High 8th grade girls basketball team played a close contest until the last quarter against the Elgin Lady Owls but fell 25-13. Playing without their starting point guard and leading scoring ShaRiya Davis, the Lady Dawgs knew the going was going to be tough, but they were up to the challenge.
Davis will be sidelined four weeks with an untimely ankle injury. Altus’ Annie Petzold hit a jumper at the start of the game to give the Lady Dawgs a 2-0 lead but Elgin scored the next two buckets to take a 4-2 lead into the second frame. Elgin upped their advantage to 10-2 before Altus cut the lead to 10-6. The Lady Owls hit the last two shots of the half to go up 14-6 . The third quarter was the downfall for Altus as Elgin outscored the Lady Dawgs 9-2 to take a 23-8 lead into the final frame. Altus outscored Elgin 5-2 in the final quarter to make the final score 25-13.
Petzold lead Altus with seven points while Bria Kille added six points. Altus (1-6) will take a break for Christmas but will travel to Anadarko on Jan. 4.
