Eleven swimmers met on Monday, Oct. 5 at the Altus City Pool, forming the first Masters Swim Club in Jackson County. With much support from Michael Shive, pool manager, and the City of Altus, the Altus Masters Swim Club was founded by Jill Bender and Robyn Kidd.

While still dark outside, swimmers swam nearly 2,000 yards on the inaugural morning. Altus Masters Club meets from 6 to 7:30 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Members expressed different motivations for joining the group, to include health and fitness, triathlons and ironman competitions, and overall swim conditioning.

The club looks forward to possible competetive pool and open water swims with other clubs. For more information please email altusmasters@gmail.com. You can also “Like” them on Facebook@facebook.com/groups/Altus.Masters/
