7TH GRADE DAWGS DEFEAT WOLVES, 26-0
The Altus Junior High 7th grade Dawgs made quick work of the Lawton Tomlinson Wolves on Tuesday night. They scored twice in the first quarter on their way to a 26-0 victory.
The Dawgs got on the scoreboard on their first drive as Chehemu Morgan scored on a 9 yard run. Raul Facundo ran in the conversion . Altus led 8-0 with 4:13 left in the first quarter.
The Dawg defense came up with the next big play as Morgan stepped in front of a Wolves pass. He took it 44 yards for the touchdown. The conversion failed. Altus led 14-0 heading into the second frame.
The Altus defense held strong in the quarter and Altus took over with four minutes to go. The Dawg offense went on a long drive that capped off when Laethon Patterson went over from a yard out. The Conversion failed and Altus led 20-0 at the half.
After a defensive stop at the start of the third quarter the Dawgs went on another long drive. This time Morgan ran up the middle for a tough 9-yard run for the score. The conversion failed. Altus closed out the scoring at 26-0.
The Altus defense was led by Patterson, Facundo, Riley Barrington and Elijah Boyle.
Patterson led the offensive attack with 59 yards on seven carries. Morgan had 55 yards on four carries.
Altus (5-1) will now prepare for a tough contest against Clinton. The Dawgs will host the Reds in two weeks.
8th GRADE DAWGS WHIP THE TOMLINSON WOLVES, 35-14
In a game that was full of big plays, the Altus Junior High 8th grade Dawgs defeated the Lawton Tomlinson Wolves, 35-14.
The Wolves scored on their third play from scrimmage. The quarterback hit the wide receiver on a fly route for a 36-yard touchdown. The conversion was good and the Wolves led 8-0.
Altus stormed right back with a long drive that was capped off when Hunter Webb went in from six yards out. The conversion failed. Altus went into the second quarter down 8-6.
Altus got the ball right back on an interception by Mysean Wells. A few plays later Dylan McGill went in from six yards out for the score. McGill hit Cabe Dickerson for the conversion. Altus led 14-8.
After another big defensive stop, the Dawgs needed just three plays to score. Dickerson went around the right side of the line for a 37-yard touchdown run. The conversion failed and Altus led 20-8 at the half.
After a scoreless third quarter, Tomlinson was able to finally break the Altus defense with a 46-yard touchdown pass with 5:29 left in the game. The conversion failed and Altus led 20-14.
With just 3:06 left in the game, Altus marched right back down the field. Dickerson went up the middle for a 4-yard touchdown. McGill hit Davyjon Ford for the conversion and Altus led 28-14.
Tomlinson failed to gain a first down on four tries on their next possession. However, Altus gave it right back to them on a fumble. The Altus defense held Tomlinson again without a first down. The Altus offense took over at the 50 yard line with a minute to play.
Webb went around the left side and cut back through the traffic for a 50-yard score. Altus closed out the scoring 35-14.
The Altus defense was led by Webb, Dickerson, Deondre Martinez, Caleb Leyja and Wells.
Dickerson led the Altus rushing attack with 159 yards on 16 carries. Webb added 99 yards on eight carries. McGill had 95 yards on nine carries.
Altus (5-1) will now prepare for another tough contest in two weeks when they host the undefeated Clinton Red Tornadoes.
