The Altus Junior High 7th grade team used a ball control offense and a stingy defense to defeat the Lawton Mac Scots 20-6.

Altus got on the board first with 2:11 left in the first quarter when quarterback Raul Facundo ran 24 yards up the middle for the score. The conversion failed and Altus led 6-0 heading into the second quarter.

Neither team could muster much offense in the second quarter but the Scots were able to finally break the Dawg defense with 1:14 left before the half on a 15 yard run. The conversion failed and the score was knotted at six.

Altus stormed right back with a quick strike offense going 45 yards in six plays with Chehemu Morgan II going into the end zone on a 16 yard run. The conversion failed and Altus led 12-6 heading into the half.

Both defenses held strong in the third quarter and both teams were held scoreless. Altus was finally able to crack the Scot defense with 3:24 left in the game. Fullback Victor Velasquez went up the middle for a 10 yard score and Morgan II ran in the conversion and Altus led 20-6.

The Dawg defense shut down the Scots on four straight plays to preserve the victory.

The tough defense was led by Branson Ford, Laethon Patterson, Jace James and J.T. Leyja.

Facundo led the offense with 89 yards on 10 carries. Morgan and Velasquez added 25 and 23 yards respectively on seven and five carries.

Altus (3-0) will take on Lawton Central next Tuesday at Marshall Field.
