The Altus High School event of the year is just two days away. Friday’s game against Anadarko is the #2 ranked high school game in the state of Oklahoma. It’s a big one.

Anadarko is on an absurd 52 regular season game win streak. Although they graduated away 18 seniors from last year’s team, the Anadarko football program is just that, a program. This year’s seniors for Anadarko are used to winning and only winning. They were 6th graders when this streak began. They don’t plan on losing Friday either.

I feel like a hype machine for this year’s Bulldogs. I’m telling you Friday night should be quite a scene. I’ve been asked to mention (as loud as I can type) that a tailgate party will be held outside of the southwest gate of Altus’ “The Rock” Stadium before the game. The party is for all to enjoy. The 12th Man Club will be providing hamburgers and hot dogs. However, the main reason for the announcement is mostly to draw as large of a crowd as possible to be on hand when the Anadarko bus arrives at approximately 5:30 to 5:45 p.m.

There are many homecoming activities that will be part of Friday night’s event. This tailgate party is to “welcome our visitors to our home.” Just like Vernon was not prepared for the number of Bulldog fans that traveled south last week, the idea this week is for Anadarko to be just as shocked when they get here. They should be shocked at the scene from the time they arrive until the time they leave.

“We were a great football team back when I played,” said Kevin Marple. “But, I don’t ever remember seeing that many Bulldog fans in Vernon.”

After looking over from the press box at the frigid playoff game a year ago in Guthrie and seeing that Bulldog fans outnumbered the home crowd, nothing surprises me.

Be there Friday night. The weather is forecasted to be in the mid to high 80s. If last night’s attendance for the 9th grade game against Cache is any indication, I’m certain the stands will be packed on Friday.

The 9th grade Bulldogs scored on there final play of the game to win 22-15 over Cache. This maintains an unblemished record for the Bulldogs 7th, 8th, 9th, JV and Varsity.
