ELK CITY – The Altus Junior High Dawgs blanked Elk City 32-0. They did this by using a punishing defense and a balanced offensive attack.
Elk City received the opening kickoff and lost yardage on their first possession. This set the tone for the game. After an Elk punt the Dawgs took over. Dylan McGill finished off a long Dawgs’ drive by running around the right side of the line for a 15 yard touchdown. Fullback, Hunter Webb, ran in the conversion and Altus led 8-0 going into the second quarter.
Altus forced the Elks to punt again and immediately established their offensive dominance by sustaining a long drive. This time, Davyon Ford broke free around the left side of the line for a 32 yard touchdown run. McGill ran in the conversion and Altus led 18-0.
Brennen Clements intercepted the ball ending Elk City’s next possession. Altus took over with a short field ahead of them. This time, Altus used the air as McGill connected with slotback Nathan Ybarra for a 59 yard touchdown pass. Cabe Dickerson ran in the conversion and Altus led 24-0 at the half.
Altus added a third quarter score when Webb gained 16 yards around the left edge for the score. McGill hit Webb for the two point conversion pass. Altus was up 32-0 heading into the final period.
The scoring ended there. The AJH 8th grade Dawgs remain unbeaten at 2-0.
The defense was led by Dickerson, Webb, Clements, Caleb Leyja. Rece Gribble had an interception. The Altus offense was led by Dickerson, who had 50 yards on four carries.
The Dawgs battle Lawton Mac next Tuesday in their first game at home.
