Phone scam is preying on elderly
State banking personnel contacted the Altus Times Tuesday to report a phone scam. According to the Oklahoma Bankers Association, local residents have been receiving calls from someone threatening to withhold their Medicare cards if they don’t cooperate, and give them their personal checking account information. Vehicle in residential hit and run said to have been stolen
Altus Police were called to 1312 “F” Street at 2.42 a.m. Sunday morning after a car hit the front of the residence and fled the scene. According to reports, the vehicle was a black Chevrolet Impala. According to Chief of Police Tim Murphy, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene after the impact and has not been identified. There were no injuries reported by the occupants inside the residence.
