The Jackson County Memorial Hospital Foundation announces that a substantial gift was made by former Altus resident Thumper Womack and his wife Stacie in memory of his parents, Judy and Gwynn Womack of Altus. The Judy and Gwynn Womack Memorial Scholarship will accept applications annually from students from Southwest Oklahoma who are enrolled in medical school, a physician assistant, graduate nursing or dental school. The goal is to assist area students who want to return to the Southwest Oklahoma community to practice medicine. Womack graduated from Altus High School in 1996. He was on the wrestling teams at Stanford University and Southern Colorado where he graduated in 2001. He attended medical school at The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences center in Oklahoma City where he graduated in 2006. He completed the University of Kansas Orthopaedic residency in Wichita, Kansas, prior to his Orthopaedic surgeon practice in Clinton, MO. Womack is married to the former Stacie Malizia of Loveland, Colorado. They have one son, Kolton Jude Womack. Judy and Gwynn Womack were long time Altus residents. Judy was the manager of the local Zales jewelry store and Gwynn owned and managed Badger Oil Company. They were active citizens of Altus with numerous friends and colleagues. Womack wants the scholarship to support and motivate area students who are pursuing an advanced degree in medicine. “There are so many deserving students who require some assistance to achieve their academic goals.” “Stacie and I are pleased to bring this opportunity and to memorialize my parents.” The memorial scholarship will be managed through the Jackson County Memorial Hospital Foundation. Students enrolled in an accredited medical, graduate nursing, physician assistant or dental program can contact the JCMH Foundation at 379-5771. The JCMH Foundation was established in 1987 to support the hospital’s vision of being the hospital of choice for people in Altus, Southwest Oklahoma and North Texas. The JCMH Foundation is a separate, non-profit entity that seeks to generate funds through community donations to enhance patient care, offer educational opportunities, purchase equipment and complete projects.
