Main Street Altus’ Rock-N-Rumble events start today
The 14th annual Rock-N-Rumble Car Show & Cruise events begin today with a Hot Rod Poker Run, an outdoor concert on the downtown square and a free open cruise. Registration for the poker run is from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. First car out is 6 p.m., and last car out is 7:30 p.m. Last car in is 9 p.m. with the winner announced on Saturday. Roy Lee Scott, Altus’ own “Flying Cowboy” will perform a free concert on the downtown square from 7 to 10 p.m. tonight. Tonight is also when you will start seeing some cool cars, trucks and motorcycles as anyone and everyone is invited to a free open cruise up and down Main Street from 7 to 10 p.m. On Saturday, registration for the car show and cruise will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the closed classic cruise being held from 6 to 10 p.m., and the closed cruise from 9 to 10 p.m. Car show judging will take place beginning at 12 noon, with and motorcycle judging at 2:30 p.m. Award presentations will begin at 5 p.m. at the stage set up on the north side of the downtown square. There will be lots of trophies and checks handed out Saturday, with a special $1,000 Best of Show award being given by Putnam Toyota. Other Saturday events include a Burn Out Contest in front of the of City Auditorium in the 200 block of E. Commerce from 10 a.m. to noon. This event is sponsored by the Altus Firefighters Combat Challenge Team. There will also be a Stereo Soundoff Competition at 11 a.m.; and another free outdoor concert by Roy Lee Scott Saturday afternoon. For those that line the Main Street to watch the cars go by, why not set up a tailgate party? Tim Wilmes and his crew from Wilmes Chevrolet/Buick have provide the official Main Street Altus Rock-N-Rumble Tailgate Party Patrol Truck this year. Tailgate party goers that would like to be judged for a chance to win a grill donated from Wal-Mart should wave the party patrol truck down on Saturday night during the cruise. The party patrol judges will be out cruisin’ the loop in pursuit for the Best 2012 Main Street Altus’ 14 Annual Rock-N-Rumble Tailgate Party.
