Former Western Oklahoma State College baseball player Juan Carlos Perez has been called up by the San Francisco Giants.
Perez was drafted by the Giants in 2008 and has been playing in the Giants minor league system since that time.
Prior to being called up by the Giants he was playing with the AAA affiliate at Fresno, Calif. where he hit for a .296 average and nine home runs.
Perez did not play in Friday night’s Giants 3-1 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Perez played for Western in 2008 which was the Pioneers first ever World Series team.
That year he led the country in home runs with 37 which is still the national record in NJCAA Division 2 baseball.
Western now has two former players in Major League Baseball. Andrelton Simmons is the starting shortstop for the Atlanta Braves.
