The WTAA Exhibition Artists’ Work Day at the Museum of the Western Prairie. The artwork has arrived for the Preview of the Inaugural Exhibition of the Western Trail Art Association to be held Saturday, March 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Museum of the Western Prairie. The regional artists brought their work to the museum this past weekend and worked long and hard to get ready for the exhibition. (From left) WTAA Artist Laura Gillis, Museum Director, Jennie Buchanan and WTAA President and artist, Mary Ann McCuistion, hang one of the seventy plus paintings that will be on exhibit at the Museum. Hosted by the Western Trail Historical Society, this premiere event promises to be another ‘magical evening’ at the Museum with beverages and hors d’oeuvres served and the “Museum Musicians” playing western music in the outside courtyard. It is free and open to the public.

The Western Trail Art Association was formed in October of 2011 and already boasts members from Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Massachusetts. The organization was formed to promote art and tourism in the states that the Great Western Cattle Trail passed through in the late 1800s including Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, and North and South Dakota.
To date, the member artists exhibiting works in the show include Jim Clements from El Dorado, Kan.; A. Glen Kewley from Boston, Mass.; Laurie Thompson from Mangum; Sue Messerly from Altus; Stephen Jones from Woodward; Gloria Lamar from Norman; Brian Nichols from Altus; Laura Gillis from Iowa Park, Texas; Steve St. John from Wichita Falls, Texas; Pam Bunch from Del Rio, Texas; Linda Rust from Del Rio, Texas; Ron Gordon from Vernon, Texas; Julie Lama from Vernon; Mary Ann McCuistion from Vernon; Phil McCuistion from Vernon; Su McMahen from Vernon; Mary Bearden from Vernon; and Teresa Byrd from Chillicothe, Texas.
This multifaceted show includes paintings in oils, watercolors, pastels, and acrylics as well as jewelry and sculptures. All of the items are being offered for sale with a portion of the proceeds going to both the Western Trail Historical Society and the Western Trail Art Association. The full exhibition will be on display through May 25.
