Booker announces candidacy for County Clerk
My name is Robin Booker. I’d like to start out by telling you a little about myself and then explain why I am the most qualified person to be your next County Clerk. I am married to Stephen Booker, who serves as one of your Asst. D.A’s for Jackson County. Together we have four children and two grandchildren. We attend Emmanuel Baptist Church. My parents are Gereta and the late William Murphy, Sr. My father served in the U.S.A.F. When my father retired he believed that Altus was the best community for raising a family and that each of his children could build homes and have successful, prosperous lives. I have three brothers: Bill Jr., Dennis, and Tim. My brother Tim currently serves as Chief of Police for the City of Altus. My in-laws are Earl and Shirley Booker who have been lifelong Altus educators. I’ve been employed with Jackson County for twenty-one years. I began working part- time in the Jackson County Treasurer’s Office. In January, 1991, I was hired for the Bailiff/Secretary position for Judge Suzanne Mollison, who had been appointed Special District Judge for Jackson County. During my employment I was recruited for the Commissioner’s Administrative Assistant/ Deputy position. I have served in that position since Nov. 1992. It has allowed me the opportunity to work side by side with the County Clerk’s office. Our office also works closely with the Circuit Engineering District on bridge projects, which includes searching easements, preparing donation certificates, and imitating tenant releases. Once received these items are filed in the County Clerk’s office. I prepare the Estimate of Needs for the Courthouse, County Commissioners Office, and Safety Director of Jackson County. These duties consist of Salaries, Travel, Maintenance and Operations, and Capital Outlay. I keep track of all inventory items within each account. Our office prepares all the Agendas for the Jackson County Commissioners and Facilities Authority. I serve as Secretary/Treasurer for the Jackson County Public Finance Authority and have served nine years on the Southwest Oklahoma Community Action Board of Directors. I have received my basic certifications for county commissioners training, which includes the following: County Budget Process, County Purchasing Procedures, Statute Reference and Legislative Process, Supervisory Skills I, and Open Meetings Process. Advance I Certifications include Supervisory Skills II, Public’s Right To Know/ Open Records, Customer Service, and Computer Basics. Advanced II Certifications include Fundamentals of Administration and Basic Accounting. As your next County Clerk, I will do an excellent job in serving the citizens of Jackson County. My qualifications, knowledge and passion for county government speak for itself. As your next County Clerk, I will reduce spending by cutting down on unnecessary travel for repetitive classes. I will support training and development for current county clerk employees with every employee obtaining their certification. I will be a hands-on county clerk who understands every procedure within my office. I will be available to my staff and to those who conduct business within my office. I will continue to work side by side with the elected officials, the excise board, surrounding communities, and the employees of Jackson County to improve working relationships and enhance customer service. I want to be your next county clerk because my career has been in the administration of county government serving the citizens of Jackson County. From my many years of training, experience, knowledge, and education I know that I can continue to most effectively serve the citizens of Jackson County in the position of County Clerk. My twenty-one years of experience as a Jackson County employee proves my loyalty and supports my dedication to Jackson County and its citizens. I have the best and most experience for maintaining and improving the functions of the County Clerks office. As your next county clerk I will utilize my knowledge, qualifications, and experience to better serve the citizens of Jackson County. I AM THE VOTE FOR EXPERIENCE. I would appreciate your vote for Jackson County Clerk June 26th.

Once again the NCAA botched it
I have to laugh at the NCAA simply because they are so comical in their decision making. This will not be the first time I have criticized the NCAA for some of the decisions they have made in the past and certainly won’t be the last. And by the way I’m not the only one that taking that stand wit...
