Altus City Mayor David Webb proclaims April 15-19,”The Week of the Young Child.” Mayor Webb and Head Start Lincoln Center Director Elva Campos met in the Mayor’s Office on Wednesday, April 17, where the Mayor signed the proclamation and presented it to Campos.
Southwestern Oklahoma Community Action Group Head Start Program celebrates Week of the Young Child, recognizing the needs of young children and to thank parents, educators, and others involved in building better futures for all children. Week of the Young Child is celebrated across the country by hundreds of local organizations working to improve opportunities for all young children.
“Early learning experiences are key to the growth and development of young children,” said Michael Balderas, Assistant Director at the Bailey Head Start Center. “Week of the Young Child provides opportunities for all of us to focus on the importance of working together through collaborations to build better futures for children and families,” said Sheila Clark, SOCAG Head Start Program Director.

Week of the Young Child is sponsored by the National Association for the Education of the Young Children (NAEYC), is an opportunity for early childhood programs across the country, including child care and Head Start programs, preschools and elementary schools, to hold activities to bring awareness to the needs of young children.
