Torres, Loving, Carson win regional titles

The Altus High School wrestling team placed sixth in the Class 5A Regional Tournament over the weekend at Duncan.

Lawton MacArthur was the team champion.

The Bulldogs crowned three regional champions.

Cameron Loving had a close match in the finals with Christian Carnahan of Duncan. Loving won the match 1-0 to claim the regional title.

As expected two-time defending state champion Keilan Torres won the regional championship. Torres won by a technical fall in the finals in the 160 pound bout.

Defending state champion Swean Carson also was a regional winner. He won by a score of 2-1 in the 195 pound match.

At 106 Altus’ Montorie Bridges lost in the finals.

The four will now turn their attention toward the Class 5A State meet which will be held Friday and Saturday at the State Fair Arena in Oklahoma City.

Notes: Three former Altus wrestlers excelled in the Class 3A regional at Kingfisher.

Christian Roney (138) won the regional championship while wrestling for Kingfisher. He defeated Blake Barrier of Blackwell 3-2.

His brother Maddie Roney (106) lost a close match to Dalton Revels of Perry 7-5 in the finals.

Drake Martel (160) of Plainview lost in the finals to Sam Schumermann of Blackwell, 4-3.
