The Western Oklahoma State College Pioneers brought out the big bats in a doubleheader sweep of the Lubbock Christian University JV on Wednesday.
The Pioneers pounded out 30 hits and hit six home runs in the twinbill.
An eight-run explosion in the fourth inning carried Western Oklahoma St. Pioneers to a 14-3 win in five innings over LCU at Lubbock in the first game.
Jose Fortuna put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for Western Oklahoma St. Pioneers. He singled in the second inning, doubled in the fourth inning, and tripled in the fourth inning.
Carlos Ditren looked sharp on the mound. LCU managed just two hits off of Ditren, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four during his two innings of work.
Jared Cook got it done on the bump on the way to a win. He pitched 2 1/3 shutout innings. He struck out three, walked none and surrendered two hits.
Western Oklahoma St. Pioneers easily handled LCU pitching as eight hitters combined for 16 hits, 12 RBIs and 13 runs scored.
In the bottom of the first, LCU grabbed the early lead with three runs. But the outcome was never in doubt after that.
Rafeal Pena and Alnardo Rodriguez homered in the game. Fortuna and Sherman Lacrus each had three hits.
In the second game the Pioneers hit four home runs in the win. Home runs came from Hilden Rivas in the second inning, Fraylin Paez in the fifth inning, Sherman Lacrus in the fifth inning, and Casey Coyle also in the fifth inning.
Rivas racked up three RBIs on three hits.
Alex Polanco got the win for Western Oklahoma St. Pioneers. He allowed two runs over 3 2/3 innings. He struck out six, walked three and surrendered one hit.
Western Oklahoma St. Pioneers pounded LCU pitching, as seven hitters combined for 14 hits, 10 RBIs and 12 runs scored.
Wester (21-4) played New Mexico Military Institute in a doubleheader today at Roswell, N.M.
