Excitement is building for the 26th Annual “Festival of Trees” to be held Thursday, Dec. 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Altus Best Western. Shortgrass Arts and Humanities Council Festival co-chairs Candace Willingham and Mary Beth Henry are organizing the many gift items donated by area businesses, groups and individuals for both the silent and live auctions that evening. Tickets are available at the Altus Chamber of Commerce, 482-0210, and from SAHC Board members by calling 477-1616 for this Holiday event that features festive gifts for all ages. Selections this year include original pieces of art work from local artists, stained glass creations, jewelry, furniture, a flat screen panel TV, a Mophie Juice Pack Plus for the iPhone 4/4S, a 32 G iPad Mini and many more unique items…far too many to list. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. with the silent auction of gift items, a social hour of Holiday musical entertainment featuring Dr. David and Kittie Huey, and a full dinner and dessert buffet catered by Simply Delectable Caterers. The live auction will start at 7:30 p.m. Emcees for the evening are Senator Mike and Reenie Schulz who will be assisted by Santa’s local Celebrity Elves, Col. Ted Detwiler, 97th Operations Group Commander; CMSgt. David Fish, 97th AMW Command Chief; (Col. Ret.) Donald Stone, 97th Maintenance Division and David Tucker, Plant Manager, Bar S Foods Co. Tickets are $20 per person. All proceeds will go to the Shortgrass Arts and Humanities Council to sponsor cultural arts activities and the Chautauqua “Living History” series scheduled in 2013.
