3/5/2013 - ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. — Based on the Economic Impact Analysis, the economic impact of Altus Air Force Base on the local area for fiscal year 2012 was approximately $350 million. Altus AFB is the largest employer in Jackson County and created an estimated 940 indirect jobs for the surrounding community.

“The Economic Impact Analysis for the 97th Air Mobility Wing is prepared annually by the 97th Comptroller Squadron to provide unclassified information to the public concerning our significant economic impact on the local area,” said Maj. Samantha Haberlach, 97th CPTS commander.

The Altus AFB EIA is a useful resource for Air Force planners and a source of information for community leaders, installation visitors, and Congressional Legislators. It presents the total economic impact and number of off-base secondary jobs supported by Air Force expenditures in the Economic Impact Region. The EIR for Altus AFB covers the area within a fifty-mile radius, including the city of Altus.

“We are proud to be a part of the Altus community and look forward to continuing our partnership,” Haberlach said.

The total economic impact of a base on its economic area is computed by summing annual base payroll, annual base expenditures and the estimated dollar value of indirect jobs created.

Altus Air Force Base’s 2012 work force consisted of 3,889 employees. Of these, 2,032 are civilian.
