The off-season is over. The Altus High footballers joined as one unified group on the plush practice field north of Hightower Memorial Stadium on Monday, Aug. 11.
First impressions usually ring true. This looks like a group with complete confidence in each other and the instruction they are getting from the staff.
Head Coach Jeremy Reed’s first impressions, “We had a great practice today. We were focused and I am pleased with the amount of retention that was carried over from the spring.”
Although, nearly 60 young men participated in yesterday’s drills, Reed expects more Bulldogs will push that number up for today’s effort.
Anyone seeing these athletes easily understands how Reed could respond so confidently when asked his impressions of the summer strength and conditioning program. His bold claim of out working every team on their schedule could very well be more than coach speak. One thing an athlete can’t fake is the time spent clanking weights in the off-season.
Well, the off-season is over. The time spent in the weight room is obvious. The Bulldogs have some size and some speed.
There is something going on with this team. It’s causing this buzzing sound around town and it got a little louder yesterday.
Coach Reed encourages Bulldog fans to pack the home side of Hightower Stadium on Meet the Bulldogs at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23.
