The Altus Bulldog Wrestling team is putting in the miles this summer. The coaches and 10 team members traveled to the University of Wyoming in Laramie on June 11-16 coming away with 11 matches and 2nd place team finish. On June 23 & 24 we hosted the 10th Annual Bulldog Wrestling camp and we had 40 kids attend this camp of all ages.
While the Bulldog Wrestling camp was going on Montorie Bridges and Cameron Loving were helping Team Oklahoma win a National Title at Oklahoma City University. Bridges went 5-0 and was named to the USA Wrestling all-tournament team while Loving went 4-2 respectfully. The bus then traveled to Oklahoma State University June 25-30 to the toughest team camp represented by 5 states and 26 teams. The Bulldogs wrestled extremely tough coming away with a 10-3 record and a 4th place finish.
The Bulldogs took some time off the mat until July 11&12 when the junior high group went to the Zoo Wrestling Camp in Geary. Altus wrestlers had 85% still showing up for Summer pride weightlifting each day in addition to all of the camp participation. Bridges and Loving will be competing for individual National Title on July 24-26 in Fargo ND.
“What a great experience it was for the kids to be coached and taught by the best in the sport like Olympic Champions John Smith and Kendall Cross, bronze medalists Coleman Scott, NCAA champs Zachary Esposito, Eric Guerrero, Mark Branch, Chris Pendelton, Alex Deringer and Chris Perry,” said Bulldog Wrestling Coach, Nick Williams. “We are grateful for the support of Altus Public Schools and the Bulldog Wrestling Boosters, without them we would not be able to provide our athletes with such amazing experiences.”
