Battling the poor conditions, temperatures in the low fifties and 35-40 mph winds, the AHS girls golf team qualified for the 5A state tournament. The players are Sr. Allison Charernsook, Jr. Marissa Vega, and sophomores Kassadi Witter, Megan McLeod and Brett Stoup. The team had to finish in the top six to qualify. The Lady Bulldogs edged out Peidmont by one stroke to finish with a 419 to take 5th Place. They will join Carl Albert, Duncan, Ardmore, Lawton Mac and Piedmont to challenge the eastern regional qualifying teams. The regional was hosted by El Reno High School and invited 14 5A west schools to the Crimson Creek Golf Course. The state tournament will be held at Duncan’s Golf and Tennis Club on May 7th and 8th.
“The girls are excited to be going to state. For the majority of the team this will be a first and most memorable event. Charernsook helped to motivate the team this year because she wanted them share in the experience she had in 2013 as the only AHS qualifier. Coach James Legrand and I are proud of the girls and the effort put forth during many of our season tournaments where the weather was not helpful. These earlier tough conditions definitely helped condition for today’s tournament. We would like to thank Rusty Worthem and Freddie Perez for the support they give our teams at Windy Trails and the Greens of Altus.” states coach Randall Coffman
