Victories in two relay events helped the Altus Junior High girls dominate the recent Elgin Owl Classic track meet.
Altus won five events en route to 152 points. Host Elgin was second with 79 points.
The quartet of Lynzie Herron, Sophia Pack, MacKenzie Wood and Olga Lopez took the 3200-meter relay in 12 minutes, 45 seconds. The 1600-meter foursome of Nia Hill, Nakome Clarke, D’Lonie Jackson and Wood won in 5:01.
Other firsts came from Kelsee Baker in the 300 hurdles, Jordan Benway in discus and Lopez in the 800.
The 400 relay group of Carly Stork, Angela Edwards, Clarke and Hill was second in 57.62 seconds, and the 800 relay unit of Stork, Edwards, Clarke and Hill was second in 2:03.
Lopez was second in the 3200, and Sophia Pack and Lopez were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 1600. Stork and Benway placed 2-3 in the 100 hurdles, and Hill and Jackson finished 3-4 in the 400.
Edwards was third in the 200 and sixth in long jump. Pack was fifth in the 800, Jacinda McQuiggan was fifth in the 300 hurdles, and Kennedy Martin was sixth in pole vault.
Last week, Altus prevailed in two events at the Edmond Relay/Field Event meet.
The foursome of Jackson, Alicia Ayers, Edwards and Hill won the sprint medley relay, and Edwards won the long jump.
Benway was third in discus, and Hill was third in high jump.
“We had a total of 17 teams in our division (at Edmond),” Altus coach Stacie Terbush said. “The girls did a really great job, and I am very proud of them.”
