It was a good day to open up the season for the Western Oklahoma State College Pioneers on Wednesday. Western traveled to Plainview, Texas for a doubleheader with Wayland Baptist University and walked away with a sweep of the twinbill.

A 6 run sixth inning ignited the Pioneers to a 8-4 victory in the first game.

Shortstop Tony Nunez had a two run scoring double in the inning. Robert De La Hoz added a run scoring single and Randy Rodriguez a sacrifice fly.

Nunez was two for three and two runs batted in as was Alnardo Rodriguez. Ceasar Figueroa had two hits in four trips to the plate.

It was a 9-3 win for the Pioneers in the second game

Jose Fortuna had the big hit of the game, a two-run homer.

Fortuna, Nunez and Figueroa all had two hits each in the game.

Westernplayed its home opener today against Luna, N. M. The two will play a single nine inning game at 2 p.m. Friday and a 1 p.m. single game on Saturday.
