The first round of the 42nd annual Clester Harrington Shortgrass Basketball Tournament produced a thriller in the nightcap game between Altus and Lawton MacArthur last night.

MacArthur won that game in overtime. Other first round winners included Lawton Eisenhower, Oklahoma City Centennial, and Houston HCYA.

MacArthur 99, Altus 82

The Bulldogs trailed for most of the game however they did lead twice in the fourth quarter.

Altus trailed by two points when MacArthur missed a free throw with seven seconds remaining in regulation. The Bulldogs rushed the ball up the floor and J.J.Ward put up a shot that rimmed off. However, Malik Knight was there for a tip in shot at the buzzer to tie the game at 77-77 and send it to overtime.

The Bulldogs led briefly in overtime before the HIghlanders grabbed the lead.

Jason Cook hit a free throw with 27 seconds left to extend the MacArthur lead to 89=82. That was too much for Altus to overcome.

Devin Wilkerson scored 28 points to lead the Bulldogs.

A 21-9 run in the first half broke a tie and got the Eagles going.

Eisenhower shot well behind the arc hitting 13 three-point shots.

However the Bison hit only one of seven free throws down the stretch to give Dallas a chance to make a comeback.
