The Altus Christmas Parade has been postponed until Saturday, Dec. 14. The parade will step off from Western Oklahoma State College at 3 p.m. sharp. The line-up will occur in the south parking lot of WOSC beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Prizes will be awarded to Float entries in 5 categories: Grand Marshall $300, First Place – School and Youth $200, First Place – Church $200, First Place – Civic & Commercial $200, and First Place – Altus Air Force Base $200.
Our parade theme is “Christmas on the Western Prairie.” Debbie Davis is the Chairman of the Christmas Parade Action Group. The parade is a community project with the Altus Chamber of Commerce, City of Altus, WOSC and Altus Air Force Base representatives providing many needed services.
For safety purposes, only parade entries will be allowed to park in the south parking lot of WOSC. “Safety First” is our motto when lining up for the parade! A traffic format will allow parents to drive on the west side of the south parking lot, drop their children off and then drive around to the north side of the college to exit or park.
Parking will be available on the north side of the college. You can also enter the college through the main entrance horseshoe off of Main Street, drop your children and then depart.
To help keep the line-up organized, all entries are asked to know their entry number when they arrive at the college. The Altus Times will publish the line up in the paper on Friday, Dec. 13.
All horses are to be unloaded at the Southwest Technology Center, 711 West Tamarack Road.
Float entries need to be in place no later than 1 p.m. as judging begins at this time. All other entries should be in place no later than 2:30 p.m. as the parade begins at 3:00 p.m.
The parade will begin at Western Oklahoma State College (2801 N. Main) and proceed south on North Main to Commerce Street. The parade entries will then disperse as follows: Odd # entries will go West on Commerce St. to various parking lots. Even Number entries will go East on Commerce St. to parking lots around City Hall. All trucks will go south to Broadway St.
The reviewing stand will be placed in front of KEYB Radio on the West side of the street. The Parade Grand Marshal this year is Larry Duffy, Western Oklahoma State College. Trudy Calvillo and Harley Moody with KEYB Radio will serve as master of ceremonies. KEYB radio will broadcast the parade on Channel 19 of Cable One and on the radio 107.9.
Happy Holidays from all the merchants and businesses who underwrite the cost of the parade!
