An East Alton man and woman were charged Wednesday in Madison County Circuit Court with felony charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance (heroin), and misdemeanor charges of endangering the life or health of a child, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, Madison County Sheriff Robert J. Hertz said in a press release.
The man and woman are identified as Brandon A. Reames, 26, and Erika J. Huck, 23, both of the 400 block of North Pence Ave.
On Tuesday at approximately 9:39 a.m., the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Mid West Motel, 912 Thorngate Drive, Room 7, Granite City, in reference to a child welfare check. A caller reported Reames and Huck were staying at the noted location and were involved in narcotic-related activity. The caller further reported the couple’s 1-year-old daughter was with them and not being adequately cared for.
Deputies met with the couple and arrested Reames on an outstanding East Alton warrant for unlawful delivery of a controlled substance. A subsequent search of the room resulted in the seizure of multiple hypodermic syringes, drug paraphernalia, and heroin. Huck was taken into custody in connection with the possession of the seized items. The couple’s daughter was taken into protective custody by the Department of Children and Family Services.
Reames and Huck were transported to the Madison County Jail, where they were held pending a formal review of facts by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office.
The felony warrants and informations were signed by the Honorable Judge James Hackett, who set bond at $15,000 on each defendant.
