Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Jackson County EMS, and Jackson County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call on Wednesday, Aug. 27 east of Altus. The call, which came in around 4 p.m., said that there was a man lying in the roadway, eastbound on Highway 62 near mile marker 48.

Officers on scene stated that the driver had reportedly stopped and exited his pickup truck for an unknown reason. After getting out of the pickup, the man realized the vehicle was not in park, and it began rolling away. Officers said that the man then attempted to climb back into the moving vehicle to stop it, but failed, and that is when he fell down in the road.

The vehicle then exited the highway, traveling south across a field, and was later recovered.

The man was evaluated by Jackson County EMS, but was not taken to the hospital. He was eventually allowed to drive away unharmed.
