“Keep Calm and Fair On” is the theme for the 2014 Jackson County Free Fair. The fair is scheduled for Sept. 3-6, so it is just around the corner.
With the Jackson County Fair comes the ever popular farm hand Olympics for junior and senior youth set for Thursday, Sept. 4, 7 p.m. This event may involve sack races, wheel barrow races, hay hauling, salt block races, tire rolling, lawn mower races, dressing up like a farmer, etc… One year participants even had to move Madagascar hissing cockroaches – ugh! Events can be changed for surprise events at the discretion of the Superintendent. But in any case we have always had a blast with this event. So if you attend school in Jackson County, be sure to come out and have some fun.
There is just about something for every age of youth at the Jackson County Fair. Children’s Day is set for Friday, Sept. 5 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and will feature several activities for kids to participate in as well as several fun demonstrations involving dogs, karate, roping, etc… If you would like to see how much weight you can move with a pedal tractor then youth up to eleven years old can enter the Tractor Pedal Pull Contest sponsored by Jackson County Young Farmers and Ranchers on Saturday, Sept. 6, 9:30 a.m. The tractor and sled are provided you just need to bring the muscle!
If you are interested in a booth for your organization or business please contact the Jackson County OSU Extension office at 580-482-0823. Your participation helps make the Fair a great success. So come on out and let people know who you are, what you are, and where your are! And, at the same time have some fun at the County Fair.
