Southwestern Youth Services, Inc. is proud to bring to area students the second annual United Youth Jam being held this Saturday, Aug. 16 from 7-10 p.m. at the Altus Community Center on Falcon Road. Students between the ages of 12-18 are encouraged to attend United Youth Jam.
Along with a multitude of activities for area students to participate in there will be live entertainment. This year the Hip Hop Band 412 will perform first. Following 412 will be Project Elevate. Project Elevate is a performing arts nonprofit organization that is focused on bullying prevention and other peer pressure related problems affecting students. The stated mission of Project Elevate also defines the mission of United Youth Jam.
“We are on a mission to elevate students, schools, and communities to a higher level through a state focused approach in our assemblies, mentoring programs, social media interaction, and community events.”
The goal of Southwestern Youth Services Inc. is to equip students for the challenges of the upcoming school year. They want area students to know where to go if they experience any number of possible problems including but not limited to bullying, depression, homelessness, problems with alcohol, tobacco or other drugs. Students will receive this information at the United Youth Jam while being entertained by 412 and participating in a number of activities including bungee jumping, sumo-wrestling and enjoying Jersey Mikes Subs, hotdogs from Bar-S, and chips.
It was estimated that 250 area youth participated in last year’s United Youth Jam, with more students expected this year. The generosity of our area sponsors have provided us with more give-aways for drawings, including a 32” flat screen television, a Samsung Tablet, flash drives and Coach handbags.
Southwestern Youth Services is only able to provide this event with the help of area sponsors. Kim Bryant the Executive Director and all the staff of SWYS are grateful to all the sponsors who help make United Youth Jam a reality.
