Crown Jewelry kicked off their 30th Anniversary weekend on Thursday, June 27, with the Altus Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and guests for a ceremonial ribbon cutting. Those in attendance entered to win various prizes and enjoyed cake and refreshments for the celebration.
“Thirty years is a long time,” Shannon Preston, Crown Jewelry co-owner said at the event. “I’m very proud of our group and our employees and I think we’ve come a long way in thirty years. A majority of the business is fun because you see a lot of fun things. You see a lot of joy… anniversaries, birthday’s, celebrations.”
“A big thanks to Altus for supporting us and hopefully we have another 30 years in us,” Preston said.
The business was founded and operated by John and Debra Borders in 1984, until Preston took over nearly 21 years ago.
“I’ve got a feeling of pride,” John said. “It’s satisfying to see something that we nurtured from a seed to grow into this nice enterprise we’ve got now.”
John said that he originally wanted to have a hobby store and Debra wanted to have a shoe store. “I went to the book store in the mall and bought books on jewelry, and Debra said, ‘What are you gonna do there John?’ I said, ‘Well I’m going to start a jewelry store. She said, ‘you can’t do that,’ and well, yes we did.”
The 30th Anniversary Celebration will continue through Saturday, with the Wheel of Deals for patrons to receive discounts off of purchases, and on Saturday, there will be a jeweler present to help pick out wax molds and designs to turn old gold into new jewelry.
