The National Wild Turkey Federation Hunting Heritage Banquet is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at the Best Western in Altus. Those attending the NWTF banquet will have the opportunity to buy exclusive merchandise to raise funds for the wild turkey conversation and important programs that introduce the outdoors to women, children and the disabled, while protecting the habitat.

The NWTF partners with Wheelin’ Sportsmen helping those with disabilities to enjoy outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, and shooting events. Women in the Outdoors, is home to a growing number of outdoor enthusiasts who take part in events hosted throughout the United States and Canada, including education, and events – Also JAKES (Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics, and Sportsmanship) allows youth members to explore the outdoors through hundreds of fun activities, kids only sponsored events. It’s a great opportunity for year round fun for both girls and boys 12 and up.

The Oklahoma Chapters of the NWTF have an outstanding track record. Specifically over the last year, members have conserved 186,768 acres for wild game, in support of these efforts. NWTF invested $4,105. They have created and maintained 54 chapters throughout Oklahoma and membership numbers are over 3,500.

Additional successes in Oklahoma include investing $425,000 on habitat improvement projects which impacted more than 108,000 acres including working on 30 state wildlife management areas. NWTF has invested $146,000 on education programs, including scholarships, education boxes, 4-H and teacher workshops. Along with these educational programs, 130 JAKES events have been held to introduce youth to the outdoors and conversation. Included in the work of the NWTF has been the investment of $160,000 to help Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation purchase 9,700 acres of land for conversation and public hunting access.

NWTF invites the public to attend the banquet at the Best Western. They will have Live & Silent Auctions, door prizes, and games. Items of interest for the outdoor enthusiast include wildlife sculptures, limited edition signed prints (framed), and jewelry.
