The Clean Up Altus city-wide event is being held 8 a.m. this Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Altus Rotary Center. This event had originally been rescheduled due to rain.
Volunteers are set to meet at the Altus Rotary Center across from the High School Cafeteria on Cypress Street from 8 to 9 a.m. to resgister, pick up trash bags and safety vests. Volunteer groups will be assigned to pick up trash and litter along Main Street, Broadway, Falcon Road, Tamarack Road, Veterans Drive, at the City Park, and City Resevior. Between 11 a.m and 12 p.m. volunteers wll return with their trash bags full to sign out. A roll-off will be proviede by the City of Altus and Raymond Moody of M & B Contracting.
Goals of the clean-up group include not only keeping Altus looking as good as possible, but keeping trash out of our community and the main waterways in the area.
All businesses along the major thoroughfares have been asked to clean up their businesses, including the areas in front, back, and sides of their building.
Additionally, Altus has been recognized by the Keep Oklhaoma Beautiful organization, as clean-up efforts have been named one of several finalists in the Great American Cleanup Award category for their 2013 Environmental Excellence Competition.
“It is certainly very rewarding to recieve recognition for all the hard work our businesses and volunteers have put in on the clean-up activities,” said Altus Chamber of Commerce President Holley Urbanski.
