The Eldorado Public School and the community of Eldorado are teaming together to bring to the 2nd Annual Eldorado Main Event on Friday night and Saturday, Oct. 4-5 in downtown Eldorado.
Through the planning phases, the event has been greatly received throughout the community and local area. This will be a family fun event starting at 6 p.m. on Friday with the reappearance of the Doll Rack and Bingo, which were an institution at the School Carnivals during the 60s and 70s. Saturday morning events will kick off at 9:30 a.m. with registration for a motorcycle poker run. Prizes will be awarded for the best and lowest hand and drawings for numerous other prizes.
Many of the outstanding cooks from the local area, along with several others are expected to return home to participate in the cook-off. Cooks are encouraged to break out their best recipes for brisket and/or beef ribs. Entries will be judged on a blind entry basis by Oklahoma Highway Patrol Captain Johnny Freeman, Jackson County Sheriff, Roger LeVick and KEYB Radio Personality Don Lane. Cooks will need to prepare an extra Brisket or two racks of ribs for donation as entry fee. Plates will be sold, and any meat left-over will be auctioned off. In order to give the cooks plenty of time to create their masterpieces the cooks may set up as early as 6 p.m. Friday evening. Grand Prize for the Cook Off will be a Traeger® Lil’ Tex Elite Grill donated by Livingston Equipment Company. Janice Miller is committee chair for this event and she can be reached at 580-481-4417.
The Car Shine and Show will begin at noon. A number of great classic cars in Eldorado will be on display, but everyone with a car that they would like to show is invited to come out. Contact person for the Car Shine and Show is Tim Springs and he can be reached at 580-633-2725.
In order to give the ladies or gentlemen a place to show off their skills there will be a Quilt and Arts and Crafts Show. This will be an opportunity to show both new and old quilts and any handmade crafts. It is always interesting and amazing to see the time and skill that goes into the making of a quilt. Contact person for the Quilt, Arts and Craft Show is Anita Stermer-Ogle and she can be reached at 580-318-3551.
The school will have booths/games for the public to play. One of these booths has been a part of the Eldorado School Carnival for over 50 years. The Junior Class will have a concession that will be open for breakfast through dinner. They will be serving drinks and meals. Vendors are also scheduled to participate. Contact person for the vendors is Caroll Braker 580-471-7648.
Not to leave the children out, there will be a Favorite Sports Team costume contest and parade with prizes at 2 p.m. on Saturday. This should be a fun filled day for all family members. Everyone is invited to come and share the day with us in Eldorado.
