Helicopter facility pulls out of Altus
It’s been almost a year since the announcement that Sikorsky Aerospace Services announced that they had decided to make Altus a site for a full service flight and maintenance training academy, but today, it was said that they have nixed their plans.
In October 2012, Sikorsky Aerospace Services (SAS) announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Aviation Training Consulting (ATC) to establish an advanced flight and maintenance training academy, the Sikorsky Training Academy (STA), in Altus. SAS is the worldwide aftermarket business of Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
The group was thought to launch the academy in the near future, and said that choosing Altus provided the training academy with access to several hundred square miles of operating space, certified landing areas, and certified night vision routes. Additionally, Altus weather conditions are well suited to flight training schedules.
SAS was teaming with Aviation Training Consulting of Altus, who said in a statement today, “Sikorsky has made the decision not to place the training facility in Altus. There is no further comment from ATC at this time.”
