EDWARDSVILLE — A woman who was shot in the face while she was singing karaoke in a bar is suing the man who fired the shot and the bar where the shooting took place.

Nina Adams has named Darrell G. Buettner and Luna Properties, owners of the Luna Cafe in Mitchell.

She also named the Inn Between Tavern in Granite City, where Buettner also allegedly was served alcohol.

Buettner was found guilty in February of aggravated discharge of a firearm for firing shots into the bar after he had been escorted out.

The jury was unable to reach a verdict on a charge of aggravated battery with a firearm.

Adam is asking for damages for her injuries, in addition to the pain she suffered and the medical costs. The bullet lodged in her face, and the injuries were permanent, the suit claims.

The nine-count suit is asking for at least $50,000 in each count.

The suit claims that on Feb. 4, 2011, Buettner fired shots from outside the parking lot into the building.

Also named were Larry G. Lowe, owner of the Inn Between. The suit also names Larry Wofford, owner of the premises of the Luna 210 E. Chain of Rocks Road, Mitchell.

A jury in February found a Buettner guilty of aggravated discharge of a firearm. but was unable to reach a verdict on a charge of aggravated battery with a firearm.

Some sources suggested the difference was the word “knowingly” in the official charge of aggravated battery with a firearm, a Class X felony.

The word “knowingly” was not included in the aggravated discharge count. The Class X charge is pending.

Buettner, of Pochahontas was charged after he was escorted out of the Luna Cafe. Evidence at trial indicated that witnesses placed him in a van on the south parking lot of the tavern when the shots were fired.

One bullet went through a wall and was never found. The other bullet went through a steel door and lodged in the face of Adams.
