June 22 -28 proclaimed Amateur Radio Week in Altus

Local amateur radio operators of the Altus Area Amateur Radio Association (AARA), and Skywarn met with Altus Mayor David Webb on Thursday to proclaim this coming week, June 22 -28, as Amateur Radio Week in Altus.The Mayor is calling on all citizens to pay tribute to the American Radio Operators of Altus in recognition of this important emergency preparedness exercise. Amateur Radio Operators are celebrating over a century of the miracle of the human voice broadcast over the airwaves, and have provided countless hours of community services both in emergencies and to other local organization through these decades, and are provided wholly uncompensated. According to officials with the American Radio Relay League, from Altus to Vinita, and Ardmore to Woodward, amateur radio operators will be using their radio stations to participate in an upcoming National Preparedness Drill .
Governor Mary Fallin and the Mayor in Altus have declared the week of June 22-28 as Amateur Radio Week in Altus and Oklahoma​​.
Field Day will be closing out the week, June 28-29, with many clubs setting up their stations Saturday and operating through noon Sunday.


Anyone interested in visiting a Field Day site near them can locate that site online at http://www.arrl.org/field-day-locator. A number of clubs around Oklahoma are active in the Oklahoma City and Tulsa areas as well. Also, some individuals have listed their Field Day operations.
