The City of Altus’ flatbed service with M & B Contracting, Inc., has begun its initial cleanup to remove debris from more than 85 miles of cluttered alleyways for residential and business areas within the city. The first phase is expected to take 60 to 80 days before beginning a regular 60-day cycle for at least one year. M & B is also having a contest for the public to guess the total amount of tons hauled off to the City dump during this first run.
Cleanup began south of Broadway this past Thursday, Aug. 8, and is moving north as the operation progresses. According to M & B Supervisor Justin Moody, so far crews have picked up 95% tree limbs and yard waste, and some mattresses and wood scraps from dismantled structures.
“Right now we believe we are progressing at or ahead of schedule,” said Raymond Moody, owner of M & B Contracting, Inc. “We’re averaging 7 to 10 tons a day.”
The flatbed service is not to exceed 8,200 water metered homes, and is contracted for a fee of $16,400 per month to remove furniture, appliances, bathroom fixtures, tree limbs, bagged yard waste (grass clippings, leaves, shrubbery, etc.), construction debris, concrete, asphalt, bricks and tires.
