Miranda, western swing band, to headline entertainment for Giddy Up Gala

Whether you like to dance, eat good food, listen to great music or just visit with your neighbors there’s something for everyone at the Giddy-Up Gala. And, the performers this year are outstanding.

Emily Miranda Smith is a talented vocal performer who has performed at many rodeos, community, and regional events in Oklahoma and Texas. She was the 2014 Miss Rodeo Oklahoma Princess. Her favorite sport is rodeo and she has been participating since the age of 7. She has been around horses and cattle her whole life growing up on the family’s cow/ calf operation just west of Altus. Emily is 13 years old, in the 8th grade, loves school, is a 4.0 student and a recipient of the Superintendent’s Academic Award. She was a member of the Southwest Oklahoma All-Region Choir. She is an enrolled member of the Choctaw Tribe of Oklahoma and is proud of her Native American heritage. She loves living a rural lifestyle and is grateful for the opportunity to promote the sport and way of life she loves.

Music from Wendell Sollis and The Sidekicks Band will liven up the Giddy Up Gala, with sounds of Western Swing, Classic Country, and Big Band music.

“This is an awesome band,” said Wendell Sollis, who is the leader of The Sidekicks, and is an accomplished, 5-string and tenor banjo player. He began performing in the early 70’s and is a veteran of Western Swing music. He has performed with many well-known Western Swing Bands, including The Bob Wills’ Texas Playboys.

The rest of the Band Members feature seasoned musicians, including the following:

Joe Settlemires, the Sidekicks’ lead guitarist is renowned for his mastery of Jazz and Western Swing. Early in his career, at age 19, Settlemires played with Western Swing icon Bob Wills. He’s since played with a “Who’s Who” of country legends, including Willie Nelson and Texas Ritter, and he’s performed with the Oklahoma City Symphony.

Ginny Mac plays accordion and keyboard and is a singer/songwriter/musician from Fort Worth, Texas. Ginny fronts a young, dynamic group that includes vocal and instrumental styling’s in the Country & Western, Americana, Folk, Jazz, Western Swing, Hot Jazz, and International music genres. She has performed on the Grand Ole Opry, the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
