Altus Police are currently investigating reports of counterfeit money being passed to area merchants over a two week period. Altus Police Chief Tim Murphy said that they have confiscated both $10 and $20 dollar bills from approximately 10 area merchants during the course of their investigations.

“Investigators are reviewing video from several of the businesses in which the counterfeit money was used,” said Murphy. “Merchants are encouraged to take some extra time to look at and feel the currency that’s being handed to you, along with using a currency marker to verify the validity of the bill,” he added.

If you have any questions, or feel as if you have received a counterfeit bill, contact the Altus Police Department at 482-4121.
