NORMAN — Area residents attended the Oklahoma Emergency Management annual meeting this week and one returned to Altus with an award.

Rosalyn Hall, with the Oklahoma State Department of Health joined Warns Cain, Erik Mowbray and Lloyd Colston where Mowbray was presented with an award for Volunteer of the Year.

Mowbray received the honor, in part, because of his work during the 2015 ice storm and his work with an area business to obtain generators for individuals at cost.

“This is quite a surprise,” Mowbray said.

At the conference, the quartet obtained updates from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the State Emergency Management office, and the National Weather Service, as well as information about the lessons learned from the civil unrest at Ferguson, Mo.

More than 300 people attended the conference.
