Tanya’s Skin Essentials is a brand new business in Altus, but owner Tanya Cary is not.

Cary graduated from Oklahoma State University at Stillwater in 1996 with a double major in apparel design and merchandising, and a minor in marketing with plans of establishing a career in Dallas or New York.

In the fall of her last semester she met husband Chris and relocated to Altus.

Her first job in Altus was manager for Beautyco and other jobs followed at Republic Gypsum, KEYB Radio, Nora’s Financial and Better Bodies Salon. She is a licensed esthetician — skincare specialist — and native of Hydro where she attended Hydro Junior High and Senior High schools.

Over the years Cary learned and discovered Alexandria Professional Body Sugaring.

“It is a safe, gentle and truly progressive method of hair removal for all parts of the body,” Cary said. “It is excellent for sensitive skin for both men and woman. I have over 300 clients a month that travel from all over Southwest Oklahoma, from Elk City to Ardmore and even North Texas.”

“The sugaring method uses a blend of natural ingredients with no chemicals or side affects and it leaves the skin, soft, silky and healthy, and my clients love it,” she said.

A unique part of the hair removal services provided by Tanya’s Skin Essentials is that she becomes familiar with a person’s hair growth pattern and the body sugaring becomes a part of the regular beauty routine.

“Brazilian hair removal is very popular and in the beginning many woman go and seek the service for their boyfriends or husbands, but over time they realize the many positive benefits of the service,” she said.

Cary advises her clients on skin needs, treatments and rejuvenation. As an Alexandria practitioner, she can offer and sell the wide variety of skin products.

Services include Brazilian hair removal, facials, sugaring hair removal, waxing, facials and full body treatments. Hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Cary and her husband Chris are active in the Altus community and play major roles in the annual Great Plains Stampede Rodeo — she as as the chair of the rodeo queen contest and he as the rodeo president.

They are also proud new parents to their baby girl Charmayne.

“I am excited that I have relocated to my own business with my own shop,” Cary said. “I have enjoyed all my wonderful times and friends at Better Bodies and the hardest part of the transition was making the decision to move out from underneath a salon setting.”

On Friday, the Altus Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting and welcoming ceremony for Tanya’s Skin Essentials new location at 2200 Falcon Road.
