CenterPoint Energy recently gave financial grants to the Altus and Blair fire departments to assist them with equipment and supplies.

“At CenterPoint Energy our top priority is to encourage safety awareness and safe practices in our communities. We are pleased that through our matching grant program, we are able to help cities leverage local resources to purchase needed safety equipment, training or provide financial support for important safety-related projects,” said Diane Englet, community relations senior director for CenterPoint Energy. “Through these types of grant programs, we are able to stay connected with our emergency officials and aid them in keeping our neighbors and communities safe.”

The Altus Fire Department will use their $1,500 grant to purchase a thermal imaging camera that helps firefighters visualize their fire plan and the temperature, locate hot spots and physical bodies, and save lives.

“The camera is vital and an important piece of equipment,” said Altus Fire Chief Kyle Davis. “It also is a tool used to help locate missing people.”

The Blair Volunteer Fire Department received $1,525 and will purchase helmets and gloves for their volunteer firefighters, officials said.

“Our mission at CenterPoint Energy has always been to lead the nation in delivering energy, service and value,” said Brain Overfield, CenterPoint Energy operations manager. “We’ve built a strong relationship with the communities we serve by the way of safety, integrity, accountability, initiative and respect. This ‘community partnership’ grant is just one way of the many ways the employees of CenterPoint are continuously giving back to City of Altus and Blair.”
