While students and teachers are out of the school buildings for summer vacation, the custodial staff is hard at work to prepare for the upcoming school year. From scrubbing and waxing floors to cleaning bathrooms and ceilings, there is plenty for our custodians to accomplish during the summer months.

Empire Paper, the new vendor for custodial supplies, is helping to streamline the daunting task of maintaining a healthy and clean learning environment. Empire Paper completed a site-needs analysis before the school year ended and provided feedback including a list of new products and procedures to make our custodians even more efficient and effective in their daily jobs.

The first of several district wide custodial trainings was held in June. Employees were taught how to use the new products to clean and wax the floors in a more effective way. A second training will be held in July to demonstrate how to properly clean school restrooms using a new enzyme cleaner.

The APS custodial staff will be doing their part to support the district wide goal to decrease student and faculty absences with a new Cooperative Cleaning Initiative. The initiative will begin in August and will be a partnership among the custodians, classroom teachers and students.

From hands-free paper towel and soap dispensers to classroom disinfectant wipes, new products and procedures will be in place to help make our schools a clean, safe environment where our students learn. Our custodial staff is working hard now to make this year the best ever.
